New advice service for EU nationals living in Westminster

A new advice service and helpline is being launched today to help EU nationals living in Westminster who are worried about their status in the run up to Brexit.

Westminster City Council is working with Citizens Advice Westminster and the Migrants Resource Centre on plans to ensure that the 30,000 EU nationals living in the borough get the best advice.

The helpline will operate on Tuesday and Thursday mornings* specifically for EU queries, and a further phone appointment can be arranged for complex issues. Help with translation can also be organised.

Westminster City Council leader Nickie Aiken announced on Wednesday that the authority is putting together a package of measures to support EU nationals.  This new EU National’s Advice Project is part of the support package and will be delivered online, by phone and face to face.

Cllr Aiken said: “I strongly believe that we have an obligation to support the many thousands of EU citizens who call Westminster their home and who contribute greatly to our city”.

Shirley Springer, Citizens Advice Westminster Chief Executive, said: “We are very pleased to be able to work in partnership with the City Council to deliver this advice service. Whilst there is no change for now, it is important that EU citizens living in Westminster are able to access accurate, factual advice on their rights and entitlements as the impact of the EU negotiations become clearer. ”

The helpline telephone number is 020 7706 6019,

It will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 2pm
