The Craig Macdonald Award
applications now open for the second year …
Last year’s award saw three young Westminster women receive grants to use tech for good. Paddington Development Trust will award another £2,000 grant this year in memory of its Vice Chair, Craig Macdonald who died in 2020.
The Craig Macdonald Award will be given to the person or organisation who best demonstrates how they would use technology either for community benefit, or to meaningfully improve a young life. It is open both to Westminster residents between the age of 16-25, and organisations who serve them.
In 2020, the inaugural year of the award, two grants of £2,000 were made to multimedia artist Sana El Wakili based in Westbourne, and Their Story a start-up multimedia news and story platform based in Queens Park. Sana said, “it’s allowed me to invest in camera equipment and a laptop and make my creative ideas a reality. I couldn’t be more grateful“. Ellie and Isotta co-founders of Their Story said the grant enabled them to support local young people to follow their multimedia passions. “Local journalism has never been more important, and we have honoured Craig MacDonald’s memory by continuing the work he was passionate about doing“.
Abi Carter, Chair of PDT, said, “Craig was a passionate advocate for the benefits of technology, and cared so much about improving the lives of those from deprived backgrounds, so we wanted to honour him in this way. We were bowled over by the generosity of Craig’s loved ones in supporting this award and are delighted to be able to make another grant again this year.”
Applications can be submitted below by 12.00 noon on 20th December. They will be reviewed by the board, and the winner announced on 7th January 2022.
