Westminster Maternity Champions
Do you want to connect with other new parents, get information on local services, receive breastfeeding support or just have fun?
The Maternity Champions Project launched in Queen’s Park, W10, as a two-year pilot in 2014.
There are now teams of Maternity Champions in:
- Brunel & Wessex Gardens estates (run by PDT)
- Churchhill Gardens and Tatchbrook estates (run by the Abbey Centre)
- Church Street (run by PDT)
- Harrow Road (run by PDT)
- Lillington & Longmore Gardens estates (run by the Abby Centre)
- Mozart Estate (run by PDT)
- Westbourne (run by PDT)
The Maternity Champions are local volunteers trained in National Childbirth Trust (NCT) courses, such as Birth and Beyond and Breastfeeding Peer Support. They offer information and informal support to parents, while also organising engaging activities for you and your baby.
Our programme includes activities such as buggy walks, baby massage, musical drop-ins, baby playtime, and coffee mornings with guest speakers, plus much more.
Our dedicated Maternity Champions Volunteers also provide Breastfeeding Peer Support on the wards at St. Mary’s Hospital.
We have built strategic partnerships with local organisations such as Creative Futures, Change4Life, the Portman Family Hub and Queen’s Park Family Hub. We are always keen to work with new partners to reach more local families.
If you would like to explore whether Maternity Champions can provide signposting or Breastfeeding support at your activity or organisation, please get in touch.
We are currently recruiting new Maternity Champions. If you are local to any of the areas we cover, passionate about helping others, and have skills to contribute, we would love to hear from you!
