Climate Champions

What are the Climate Champions?

They work to improve the area for themselves and for the environment. Champions work together on seasonal campaigns, covering themes of:

• Where we live
• What we buy, use and consume
• How we move
• What we eat
• Biodiversity

Alongside this, Champions run their own projects, such as an Upcycling Club, street greening, and canal pollutant testing. We also have Junior Climate Champions, hosted at Grand Junction, for children aged 7 – 11.

We’ve won the Local Leaders category at the London Eco Champions Awards 2025 for our community work, and won the Evolution of Sustainability, Nature and Best of the Year categories at the 2026 P.E.A Awards for our project North Paddington: The Natural Way.

Created by Climate Champions, Junior Climate Champions and the children of the Community Classroom, in partnership with Westminster Libraries, and inspired by the Camino de Santiago, this six-mile walking pilgrimage through Westbourne, Queen’s Park and Harrow Road allows you to discover the area in an entirely new way, encouraging connection to the local area, active travel, and ongoing, active, sustainability in people’s lives. Pilgrims get closer to nature and visit sites that local residents want to highlight, whilst collecting stamps in their beautifully designed Pilgrims Passport.  

A major goal was to highlight the amazing people, nature, and organisations in an area where news stories tend to focus on the negatives, and ensure local people are able to explore local places.

• You’ll visit: Westminster Libraries (Queen’s Park, Paddington, Maida Vale and Paddington Children’s Library) 
• Grand Junction – G1 listed Church, community and events space
• Meanwhile Gardens – secret urban oasis by the canal
• Gerry’s Pompeii – hidden sculpture garden created by a local resident
• Urbanwise.London – urban studies centre
• Beethoven Centre – community venue
• Maida Hill Market Place – local market
• WECH – housing association led by local residents
• The Exchange – community venue

Nature of Things: A Salon for Curious Minds

Nature of Things: A Salon for Curious Minds, has been bringing high-profile environmental speakers, activists and changemakers to North Westminster for the past year, talking about their work, and inspiring, challenging and upskilling residents on the environmental issues shaping their lives. Designed to be more of a conversation than a lecture, speakers are in discussion with Climate Champions, bringing unique perspectives to knowledge sharing. It’s community focused, and if you come alone, you’ll likely leave with a new friend.

November 2026
Join the Climate Champions in meeting Louise K Blight, a conservation scientist who spent a year in Antarctica, studying penguins! Louise will teach us about penguins, living on the most isolated place on the planet, and how Antarctica is being impacted by climate change.

Become part of the Nature-Hood Watch!

We are turning Westbourne, Queen’s Park and Harrow Road into an urban nature reserve. We are inviting local residents, businesses, schools, and organisations to join together to create a space that is more inviting for biodiversity, as well as expanding their knowledge and skills around the nature world. Spending time in nature is good for mental health, increasing plants will combats air pollution and excess heat – win win!
