There are numerous reasons people wish to improve their English, so this course is designed to be flexible. Our Functional Skills English qualifications are designed to help learners of all ages and levels, supporting them to confidently develop and demonstrate the practical skills needed in real-life situations.
This course focuses on both strengthening current skills, as well as the ability to apply English to different contexts. It can be undertaken alongside GCSEs and work-based qualifications. Achieving this qualification should increase candidates’ confidence and motivation, and the skills they gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning. Being able to use spoken and written English effectively is vital for almost any career.
When you join this free course (subject to eligibility), you will usually be asked to complete a short test at the start, known as an initial assessment. This will help to decide which qualification level is right for you.
Learners will have access to resources online resources, which will form part of the weekly teaching sessions. Students are also encouraged to use these resources outside of class time to expand their knowledge and understanding.
Please note, if you plan to use this qualification to support an application for permanent Settlement or Naturalisation in the UK, you also need to ensure you have met all the other requirements set out by the Home Office.
