City & Guilds

City & Guilds offer a range of qualifications for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator) and in Early Years and Childcare for learners interested in developing the skills and knowledge that will lead to meaningful employment in the Early Years Sector in England.

  • The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator) (Work Based).

The City & Guilds qualification for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator) are mapped out to the criteria for Early Years Educator qualifications, published by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. On completion learners will be able to work as Early Years Educators in England.

Entry requirements

This is a Free course for those without a full Level 3 qualification and living within Greater London area. You may need to apply for Student Loan from the Student Loan Company.

The City & Guilds have not set additional entry requirements for this qualification.

Duration and Delivery

The course will be delivered over 50 weeks with a combination of class-room and on-line teaching.

What is involved in studying this course?

You will be required to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Early Years Education and Care (EYE), including that you can support and promote children’s early education and development.

Plan and provide effective care, teaching and learning that enable children to progress and prepare them for school, make accurate and productive use of assessment.

Develop effective and informed practice, safeguard and promote the health, safety and welfare of children, work in partnership with the key person, colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals.

What careers can this lead to?

  • On completion of one of our qualifications for the Early Years Practitioner you will be able to work as an Early Years Educator.
  • This qualification is suitable for progression into employment as an Early Years Educator or for progressing into higher education.
