NCFE Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training

This qualification is a first stage teaching qualification that will give learners a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. This course is suitable for learners aged 19 and above, who want to work in the post-16 education and training sector.

The Level 4 Diploma in Education and Training provides an introduction to teaching and aims to meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

  • 
Individuals not currently in a teaching or training role.

  • Individuals currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training).

  • Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

This qualification will provide learners with a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to meeting the needs of learners. It is a nationally recognised qualification which allows you to progress onto further study or employment.

This qualification runs over 44 weeks, with a combination of classroom and on-line teaching, and practical sessions at a place of work as well as support sessions. Learners will need to ensure that they can teach and train others who are completing a course – this will be discussed during induction. Line managers will be involved where guidance and support will be required for the learner.

Learners will be observed three times during the course – this will be arranged and discussed with individual learner.

Learners will have access to online resources, which will form part of the weekly teaching sessions. Learners are encouraged to use these resources outside of class time to expand their knowledge and understanding and expand on their practice where observation and assessment methods are part of the requirements for the qualification.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

  • Level 4 Award for Technology Enabled Educators
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • Level 5 Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership

Learners may also progress into employment as a tutor within:

  • Further education colleges
  • Adult and community education providers
  • Offender education
  • Work based learning providers
  • The voluntary sector
  • Independent training organisations
