Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
This qualification supports ‘specialisation or the need to upskill within an established profession’. It supports those working in schools, e.g. Teaching Assistants, Support Assistants, Teachers and SENCOs so that they can gain specialist knowledge of the needs of children and young people in an educational environment.
This is a free course for those without a full Level 3 qualification and living within the Greater London area. You may need to apply for Student Loan from the Student Loan Company.
What is involved in studying this course?
The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools is aimed at support workers and teaching assistants in schools who directly support teachers in the teaching and learning of pupils. This qualification provided the knowledge and understanding needed to work directly with children or young people in schools. Learners will support the assessment for learning, developing relationships, promoting equality and diversity and understanding how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people.
Duration and Delivery
The course will be delivered over 44 weeks with a combination of class-room and on-line teaching, practical sessions at a place of work and support session.
On achievement of this qualification, learners will gain experience and knowledge of the education system and support provided in schools in order to train further as a SENCO, specialist support worker of go on to a teaching role.
This course would also suit learners who want to progress to further learning to take on a position of a Higher level teaching assistants (HLTAs) do all the things that regular teaching assistants do but they have an increased level of responsibility. For example HLTAs teach classes on their own, cover planned absences and allow teachers time to plan and mark.
What careers can this lead to?
This qualification is suitable for progression into HLTA or a Teaching degree.
